Kiambu County to hold weekend Age-Group Invitational Swimming Championships

The event will be used as a time trial for swimmers to qualify for national time trials slated for later this month.

Kenya Swimming Federation - Kiambu Branch will this weekend hold the Kiambu Age-Group Invitational Swimming Championships set for 6th and 7th May at the Mpesa Foundation Academy, official communication from Kiambu Competition Secretary Shadrack Mutiso stated.

The two day event - set to involve over 15 teams from Kiambu County - will be used as a time trial for swimmers to qualify for national time trials slated for later this month.

The Kenya Swimming Federation time trials are scheduled for May 20-21 at Kasarani and will be used to select a team that will represent the country in the upcoming national championships and swimming meets.

Some of the schools and clubs expected to participate in the individual events and relays include; Potterhouse School, Braeburn, Super Marlins, Condor School, Hydrofit, Bloomington, Juja Preparatory School among others.

The different age groups involved will see swimmers ranging from 7&U, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16 and over while the relays will be 9&U, 10-13 and 14 and over.

Medals will be rewarded for the first three places in all individual events and relays and Certificates of participation will be awarded to all swimmers who will participate in this meet.

Overall Team Trophies for the Best Girls team and Best Boys Teams, 1st runners up and 2nd runners up. The Team Trophies winners will be determined by the Medal Count.

The select Kenyan team - after the trials- is expected to participate in the upcoming World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka in July, with the World Short Course Championships, Israel following thereafter in September.

The weekend meet will start at 8.00 AM with the warm-ups beginning at 6:45 AM.

Elsewhere, Lukenya Academy garnered 297 points to finish tenth overall in the Kampala invitational gala which concluded on Monday in Uganda

Gators Club of Uganda topped the overall standings with 1573 points with Aquatic Academy placing second with 1494 points, and Torpe Club of Uganda finished third with 1260 points.
