Falcons earned promotion to the top tier in 2018 after topping the FKF Women’s Division One Zone B League.
Trans Nzoia Falcons’ five-year stay in the FKF Women’s Premier League has come to an end after they issued their third walkover of the season on Sunday.
The team was set to play Wadadia at the Ndura Sports Complex in Kitale, but as the visitors arrived and warmed for the game, the hosts were nowhere to be seen, and the match officials did match rituals, handing the visitors a walkover.
In reality, Wadadia will not get any points, as all the results involving the Falcons will be nullified. Teams that earned points against them on the pitch and through walkovers will lose them.
Flacons featured in three opening games against Zetech Sparks, Madira Soccer Assasins, and Bunyore Starlets, losing all three games, followed by walkovers against Bungoma Queens, Vihiga Queens, and Wadadia. The third walkover seals their fate.
The Kitale-based club has been facing financial challenges since last season. Their woes were compounded this season when former Harambee Stars coach Justus Okiring resigned from his position due to personal reasons. The coach, who is said to have been the glue on the team, threw in the towel, citing abuse from fans who could come to the aid of the team.
They have not honoured a game since the tactician left. Efforts to find a buyer or sponsorship proved futile, and the team is reportedly set to be disbanded.
Falcons earned promotion to the top tier in 2018 after topping the FKF Women’s Division One Zone B League. They went all season unbeaten and defeated Gaspo Women 2-1 in the Division One play-offs to be declared overall Division One champions.
Elsewhere Vihiga Queens stretched their lead at the top of the league after beating Zetech Sparks 2-0 at Moi Stadium in Kisumu. Janet Bundi and Claudia Kadenge scored the goals for the hosts. The win takes their tally of the season to 16 points, although they will lose the three earned from the game against the Falcons.
