Bungoma Queens will host league giants Vihiga Queens in a Western Province derby at the Bungoma National Polytechnic from 1:00 p.m.

The last two matches of the FKF Women’s Premier League (WPL) round one will take place today, Sunday, 5 October, across two venues in Western Kenya.

The Kenyan women’s top tier resumed on Saturday, 4 October, bringing an end to a four-month wait largely occasioned by the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) held in August.

Bungoma Queens will host league giants Vihiga Queens in a Western Province derby at the Bungoma National Polytechnic from 1:00 p.m.

Vihiga head into the match seeking a bright start to the season as they aim to reclaim the league title.

Last season, Boniface Nyamunyamu’s side finished fourth on the league table and also missed out on the FKF Women’s Cup.

Hosts Bungoma, on the other hand, finished an impressive fifth and will be keen to build on that performance, starting with today’s derby against Vihiga.

In the other match of the day, it will be a battle of this season’s newcomers as Madira Soccer Assassins welcome Gideon Starlets to the Mumboha Grounds from 1:00 p.m.

Soccer Assassins will be looking to start on a high to avoid slipping back to the lower division where they featured for some time.

If they are to win, they must overcome Gideon Starlets from Homa Bay — the only South Nyanza club in the top tier.

Despite being new to the league, Gideon Starlets will be eager to earn their first points as they begin their journey to retain top-flight status.

The two matches follow four others played on Saturday, 4 October.

Kenya Police began their title defence with a 2–1 victory over league debutants Kayole Starlets, while Kibera Soccer Women and Ulinzi Starlets shared the spoils.

Varsity side Zetech registered a 2–1 win over Kisumu-based Kisped Queens, as Trinity Starlets handed Kisumu All Starlets a 4–2 defeat.
