Despite the calls for change, some fans urged patience and asked that Ambani be given at least five games to steady the ship before any drastic decision is made

A section of AFC Leopards supporters have called for the demotion of head coach Fred Ambani after Ingwe were held to a 2-2 draw by Posta Rangers in their second match of the 2025/26 FKF Premier League season at Dandora Stadium on Friday, 3 October.

The visibly frustrated fans argued that Ambani, a club legend, is better suited as an assistant coach.

Ambani took over as Ingwe’s interim coach in November 2024 following the dismissal of Thomas Trucha and guided the side to a fifth-place finish in the 2024/25 campaign.

However, since being confirmed as the head coach in September 2025, Ambani has yet to deliver a win for the 1998 league champions.

Leopards began the new season with a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday, 20 September, and were once again frustrated in the 2-2 stalemate against Posta Rangers.

"A game like that, we only had ten minutes left on the clock to seal the win, but we were held. It does not make sense. From the next match, the players and the technical bench should know that we want three points, nothing else,” said die-hard fan Afande Shisanya.

"Fred Ambani should be an assistant coach; the club should hire a senior coach. Doing the opposite does not add up.”

The coaching role at AFC Leopards is often considered one of the toughest jobs in Kenyan football due to the high expectations from the club’s passionate fan base.

On Friday, Kelly Madada put Leopards ahead in the 22nd minute before Jackson Dwang equalised for Posta with a free kick in the 33rd minute.

Ugandan striker Samuel Ssenyonjo restored Ingwe’s lead in the second half with his first league goal for the club.

However, with ten minutes left on the clock, Eliud Lokuwam struck to earn Posta Rangers a share of the spoils and keep the Mailmen unbeaten in the 2025/26 season.

Despite the calls for change, some fans urged patience and asked that Ambani be given at least five games to steady the ship before any drastic decision is made.
