The record league champions beat competition from Kenya Police FC, Nairobi United and AFC Leopards to secure Dwang’s signature, with the midfielder set to fill the void left by Austin Odhiambo, who departed Gor Mahia last week for Lebanese side Nejmeh SC.
Dwang had only recently returned to Posta Rangers following a difficult spell at Bandari FC, but quickly rediscovered his form, delivering a string of standout performances.
He scored two goals and provided several assists during the first leg of the season, making his departure a significant blow for the Mailmen.
Explaining the decision to sanction the transfer, Odoyo revealed that the player expressed a strong desire to move, prompting the club to negotiate what he described as a favourable deal.
“Ideally, we did not want him to leave,” Odoyo said. “But after he expressed interest in taking up the opportunity, it became a matter of agreeing with Gor Mahia and ensuring we got the best possible deal for Posta Rangers.
We must always protect the interests of the club first, and I believe we did well. Without going into details, it is a good deal.”
As part of the agreement, Posta Rangers will receive two young forwards from Gor Mahia; Reagan Ogola and Veron Ombima, with Odoyo confident the duo will strengthen his squad.
“They are both young players with huge potential,” he added. “My technical team wanted them at the club, and we are confident they will deliver.
We will provide them with the right environment to develop and grow into some of the best players in the league and in the country.”
Odoyo also had warm words for the departing Dwang, praising his professionalism and character.
“He is a top professional and a respectful player. He is the kind of player who would always welcome back if things don’t work out elsewhere,” Odoyo said. “As a club, we wish him nothing but the best as he begins this new chapter at Gor Mahia.”
Dwang could make his Gor Mahia debut on Sunday against Shabana FC at Gusii Stadium.
