Ambani, speaking after Ingwe’s first win of 2026 against Nairobi United on Wednesday, 7 January, was pleased to see some of his work from the training ground reflect on the pitch in good effect, but admitted having a few worries about the final third.
Leopards, looking to bounce back from their weekend loss to Kakamega Homeboyz, bossed proceedings at Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday, before running away to a 2-0 victory.
The visitors, who enjoyed 52 percent possession- according to Azam TV- on the day, got their goals either side of the break, courtesy of a Michael Karamor own goal, and a second-half toe-poke by youngster Kelly Madada.
Asked about his team’s display, Ambani was full of praise about how his players nullified Nairobi United’s attack, replicating all the work from their training sessions.

“We did a lot of work on how we would limit their [Nairobi United] chances through the wide areas, and then how we would attack,” Ambani said. “That was the most important thing that we had been training on all through this week, and I am glad that it worked.”
Of concern, however, was the lack of fluidity in Ingwe’s attack, as the side created a host of opportunities, but spurned them altogether.
On Wednesday, Leopards - as per stats provided by broadcaster Azam TV - had six total shots, but ended up utilizing just one, which was Madada’s effort in the 70th minute.
Commenting on his side’s conversion rate, Ambani said: “It is worrying me a bit because we are getting a number of chances, but converting them has been a problem.
We will keep working on that till the day we get it right. Every day is a learning process. We will look at our mistakes during training, and work on certain aspects of our attacking third on how to be comfortable, clinical, and at least get some goals.”
Ingwe’s seventh win of the season took them back on top of the league standings on 27 points, a fact that was not lost on Ambani, who remained defiant in leading the club to its first major title since 1998.
“We must give the fans what they have missed for the last 27 years,” Ambani said when asked about winning the league. “We are 100 percent going for the title.”
Leopards next play Tusker on Sunday, 11 January at Nyayo Stadium.
