The 51-year-old, despite changing up his striking force midway through the game, did not see them score
Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor said his team was unlucky following their 1-0 defeat to Bidco United on the opening weekend of the 2025-2026 FKF Premier League season.
Akonnor, who took charge of K’Ogalo on 1 August, rued the side’s inefficiencies in front of goal, terming the situation as a problem.

Expected to be clear favorites at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday, 21 September, Gor Mahia bossed proceedings from the first whistle, but were ultimately left to pay for not converting their superiority to goals, as Bidco scored a late penalty to run away with the all-important three points.
Commenting on how his first competitive outing in the top-tier fared, a clearly disappointed Akonnor said: “We dominated like 70 percent of the game and we were unlucky that we could not score from the chances that we created, and that is a problem.”
New signing Ebenezer Adukwam was one of the players who stood out for Gor Mahia as they took the initiative in the opening stages of the game, but his deliveries from the left went begging.
Afforded all the time and space to build their attacks, the hosts labored to find a way past a resolute Bidco defense, and only got close through long-range attempts from Alpha Onyango, Austin Odhiambo, and centre forward Christopher Ochieng.
In the second half, Akonnor, who during his unveiling promised to deliver an attacking style of football, took out his only striker, opting for a different option to run the channels.
Explaining the decision, the former Black Stars coach said: “In the first half, there was no mobility upfront. Chris was doing well, but he could not move as we wanted."
As a result, K’Ogalo deployed Adukwam in the middle, with substitute Shariff Musa replacing him on the wing.
The impact, however, was less than ideal, as the men in green still found the door to the goal shut, much to their eventual disappointment.

“That is the game of football,” Akonnor said of the defeat. “We created chances, but could not score.”
The defeat extended Gor Mahia’s winless run to Bidco to three matches, signifying Anthony Akhulia’s tactical understanding of K’Ogalo.
Looking forward, Akonnor promised to help fix the glaring concerns ahead of their next match against Sofapaka on Saturday, 27 September.
“We have to get back on track,” Akonnor said. “We will continue with the belief of how we played, and now work on our composure in the final third to improve our game.”
