Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere believes that the team did not deserve to begin the 2025-2026 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season with a loss.

The Brewers lost 2-0 to KCB in a match played on Friday, 19 September at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani from 6 pm.

The match marked the return of contests under floodlights after five years,as Tusker lost to Gor Mahia at the same venue in 2020 in what was the last night match.

A first half brace from former Gor Mahia winger Boniface Omondi guaranteed KCB, coached by long-serving former Tusker coach Robert Matano, victory.

Okere says the loss is a big source of pressure.

It is a game that we had planned well for, unfortunately, we conceded two goals. We got scoring opportunities and that is something that we have to improve moving on to our next match.

So it is pressure already, and we have to adapt quickly so that we catch up with the rest of the pack," Okere told Tusker Media.

Tusker were guilty of missed opportunities in the match including a second half penalty which 2018 FKF Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP) Erick Kapaito missed.

Okere, who is on his second season in charge in the Kenyan top flight, called on his new signings to find their footing as soon as possible.

They are good players and I believe that they should adapt quickly to our playing style and our philosophy.

I believe that, given more time in terms of training and even in matches, they can do better. It is all about cohesion in the team, but again, it is something that we have to improve,” he added.

Meanwhile, the former Harambee Starlets tactician showered his opponents with praises even as he retreated to prepare his team better in their second league match against Posta Rangers.

“Well, first loss of the season and I believe it was a tricky encounter. We were playing against a strong team also. We also want to congratulate the opponents on the points, but it was our first match, and I believe we could have done better,” he added.
