While everyone covets captain's armband, a BVB player yields it to teammate

Dortmund's forward Julian Brandt made an admirable move that doesn't happen often in football

Apart from a fantastic duel of two Champions League sides already in the Round of 16 of the German Cup (DFB Pokal), the clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund revealed something seldom seen in the football world.

Namely, even though the BVB's vice-captain - the first-choice skipper Emre Can is sidelined due to an adductor injury - Julian Brandt yielded the captaincy to his teammate Nico Schlotterbeck ahead of the derby match!

The defender spent the entire game with the armband on his arm, and following Dortmund's triumph on penalties, Brandt explained his move.

"I gave Nico the armband because I feel I haven't been in the starting lineup that much in recent weeks. But for us as a team, it's very important to have a bit of continuity and a consistent point of contact. He's doing a fantastic job in the role right now," he said via Kicker.

The same source further claims that Schlotterbeck - initially the team's third captain - will remain the second "in command" permanently, as selfless Brandt gave up the role.

As for the Dortmund boss, Niko Kovac, Kicker asserts he didn't mind the swap, as he prefers things to be resolved internally among players. Hence, it seems pretty clear who'll walk the team onto the field wearing the armband tonight (22.30) when BVB face Augsburg on the road.
