Borussia Dortmund, after a 1-1 draw in regular time, managed to defeat Eintracht on penalties and continue their journey in the German Cup

`We didn’t witness a particularly thrilling match in Frankfurt, where Eintracht and Borussia Dortmund played out a 1-1 draw in regular time. The extra time offered little more excitement, and in the end, Niko Kovac’s side proved more composed in the penalty shootout, winning 4-2.

The match got off to an energetic start in the 6th minute, when Adeyemi had the first attempt on goal for Dortmund after receiving the ball inside the penalty area, but his shot went just wide of the home team’s post.

Only a minute later, Eintracht Frankfurt struck first. Knauff put his team ahead 1-0 after a precise assist from Mario Gotze, calmly finishing one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The goal is HERE!

Dortmund continued to apply pressure, and in the 24th minute, Ryerson delivered a strong cross from the right. Jobe Bellingham rose highest in the Eintracht penalty area and headed towards goal, but his effort sailed over the bar.

In the 35th minute, Chaibi attempted a long-range shot, yet it went wide of Kobel’s goal. Shortly after, in the 38th minute, Doan showed off some skill with a neat dribble down the left flank and fired a shot, only to see it comfortably saved by Kobel.

Finally, in the 40th minute, Theate tried a similar approach to Doan, but his strike lacked both power and accuracy, allowing Kobel to make another routine save.

The second half began with Borussia Dortmund leveling the score just three minutes in. In the 48th minute, Julian Brandt scored to make it 1-1. Brandt was involved from the very start of a prolonged build-up play, with Bellingham setting up Ryerson, who then spotted Brandt perfectly for a composed finish into the net. The goal is HERE!

Eintracht responded with a set-piece chance in the 53rd minute. Fares Chaibi took a free kick, but the ball narrowly missed the right post, keeping the score tied.

The match saw another clear opportunity in the 69th minute when Knauff broke through on a counterattack. Alone in Dortmund’s half, he shifted the ball to the right and fired a shot, but Kobel was alert and denied him the goal.

In the 80th minute, Doan almost handed Eintracht the lead. He produced a stunning solo run and struck from the edge of the penalty area, only to see his effort crash against the crossbar. A minute later, Uzun had another golden chance from a similar position, but once again, Kobel was ready to prevent a Frankfurt lead.

Both halves of extra time went by without major excitement, as it seemed that neither team wanted to spend too much energy, preferring to let the match be decided by a penalty shootout. The only moments worth mentioning came in the 92nd minute, when Doan’s header went over Kobel’s goal, and about ten minutes later, when Chaibi took a powerful shot from 25 meters, but Kobel was once again alert to keep it out. Toward the end of the match, Eintracht even found the net after a free kick, but the referee raised his flag for offside.

In the penalty shootout, the visitors were flawless, while Eintracht’s Doan and Chaibi failed to convert their attempts, allowing the Yellow Wall to advance to the next round of the Cup.
