What day is today? The day of Bayern Munich's cold vengeance

After a shocking 3-0 loss to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup in the pre-season, the Bavarians are eager to get their revenge (19.30)

Bayern Munich's dreadful losses and humiliations in domestic competitions are as rare as Halley's comet. Especially at their own stadium. That's why that shocking 3-0 defeat by the hands of RB Leipzig in August in the German Super Cup stunned everyone.

Dani Olmo's hattrick ruined Harry Kane's Munich debut, making it a horrible day not only the England international but the entire Bayern squad would gladly remember.

The best way to put these embarrassing memories into an archive is to fight back and beat the same opponent in the same style as soon as the opportunity arrives. And this Saturday has just the aura Thomas Tuchel and his boys were hoping for.

RB Leipzig await Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga derby match with all to play for. Less than two months after that colourful tie, the two sides meet again, only this time fighting for the important league points. With nothing more than a single point separating them (Bayern are in joint-second place, and Leipzig in joint-third), we have a splendid skirmish in prospect.

Both Leipzig and Bayern go into this game with wins last week in the league as well as midweek in the DFB Pokal. Last weekend, Leipzig comfortably beat Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 at Borussia Park before beating Wehen Wiesbaden 3-2 in the Pokal in a much closer affair.

Bayern's games were a lot more comfortable. On Saturday, they beat Bochum 7-0, with Harry Kane scoring his first Bundesliga hattrick before making the trip to Munster in midweek and beating Preussen Munster 4-0.

The key battle in this game will be between the hosts' attack and Munich's defence. While Olmo and Timo Werner will miss the game due to injury, Xavi Simons, Emil Forsberg, Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko will cause issues for a Bayern defence that is constantly being tinkered with due to injuries.

On the other hand, apart from the absence of Manuel Neuer already, Bayern are likely to be without Matthijs de Ligt and Serge Gnabry, who broke his forearm in the game against Munster.
