Lost trophy and an apology: Tuchel feels sorry for Kane - who has a lot of adjusting to do

Life at Bayern is usually rosy - but not today

Harry Kane's highly anticipated debut for Bayern Munich turned into a major disappointment as he experienced yet another defeat in a cup final. The reigning German champions suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss on their home turf to RB Leipzig, the winners of the German Cup, during the Super Cup final held in Munich.

Kane was introduced into the match only after an hour had passed, likely due to his late-night efforts to finalise his transfer. Unfortunately for the former Tottenham star, Bayern was already trailing 2-0 at that point, and they conceded a third goal just seven minutes later. This goal marked a hat-trick for Dani Olmo.

Despite Kane's presence, he struggled to make a significant impact on the game, and Bayern displayed familiar signs of weaknesses seen in the previous season. The Bavarians' boss Thomas Tuchel had to apologise to his latest recruit after the game in which his team was second-best in just about every aspect.

"I feel sorry for Kane. We did not keep the momentum going. We did not create enough for him. We don't expect him to be the superhero. We just expect him to be who he is: a top guy, a top goalscorer and a top personality. He will help us a lot. We need exactly his attitude to help us step out of the circle of repetitive performances like this. He does not need to learn from us. We need to learn from him."

Kane lost the League Cup, Champions League, and Euro 2020 finals with Spurs and England, respectively. He will have to wait for his trophy with Bayern as they begin their Bundesliga title defence with a trip to Werder Bremen on Friday, 18 August.

Besides ending up on the losing side, the Englishman found himself in a totally new situation of being unable to communicate with people surrounding him on the pitch. As Bayern were appealing to the referee for a penalty kick, Kane marched up to the official with a desire to say a few words. Then he apparently remembered that everyone were speaking German. That particular situation also highlighted how crazy the past few days have been for Kane. He changed club and country, made his debut, lost the game - and realised he'd need a language course!
