Giants Vihiga Queens opened their 2025-2026 season with a comfortable 3-0 over neighbours Bungoma Queens.
The two Western Kenya teams clashed in their FKF Women's Premier League (WPL)season opener on Sunday, 5 October at the Bungoma Polytechnic Grounds.

Keen to reclaim the league title after losing to Kenya Police Bullets in the last two seasons, Vihiga used the game to make their intentions clear.
The former champions enjoyed the lion's share of possession, from onset, with Bungoma, who finished fifth last season, defending well in the first quarter.
Vihiga’s dominance did not count for anything until the half hour mark when Airine Madalina, who was making her debut for the club, broke the deadlock after being put through on goal by Martha Amunyolete.
Deflated by the goal, the Bungoma defense were in sixes and sevens two minutes later, allowing Amunyolete to double the visitor’s lead after she was put through by Alice Mideri.
In the second half, the pace of the game slowed down but Vihiga made the best out of it in the 55th minute when Amunyolete doubled her tally from a Ugandan international Anita Namata's assist.
Efforts by Bungoma to pull one back did not bear fruit.
The result catapulted Vihiga to the summit of the WPL League table toppling Trinity Starlets who humbled Kisumu Allstarlets 4-2 on Saturday, 4 October.
Madira back with bang
At the Mumboha Grounds in Vihiga, Madira Soccer Assassins marked their return to top flight football with a 2-0 victory over newbies Gideon Starlets.
Madira secured maximum points courtesy of Rising Starlets star Valarie Nekesa who scored a brace.
