Jaramogi Oginga Stadium is one of the many stadiums constructed across the country with the facility earmarked to be done in phases with the first phase handled by the County Government of Siaya.

According to Orengo, the county has met its end of the bargain following the conclusion of the first phase.

“Phase I of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium has been successfully delivered, fully funded by county resources,” said Orengo in a statement on his social media accounts.

According to previous reports, Phase I was expected to cost Ksh500 million and entails a number of key features.

“This premier facility stands as a shining example of county-led development, featuring state-of-the-art changing rooms, a modern basketball court, and high-end VIP pavilions.

It sets a strong benchmark for how devolved units can independently execute transformative projects. A must-visit landmark for anyone coming to Siaya,” he added.

According to the video shared by the Governor, the VIP pavilion is complete with a canopy covering the section which also contains the offices and changing rooms.

The changing rooms are modern with lockers for each player, flash toilets, bathrooms and urinals as recommended by CAF.

The facility also has seats across the stadium but other sections are yet to have a canopy installed. Additionally, the first phase has also seen the installation of a tartan track for use by athletes as well as lights to allow action at night.

The second phase is expected to begin soon, and will be carried out by the national government, according to a past undertaking by President William Ruto.

The second phase will be targeting the expansion of the stadium’s sitting capacity from the current 5,500 to 20,000 and an all-round canopy in a bid to have it meet international standards.

The second phase will be supervised by the Kenya Army who have already visited the facility with the expansion expected to cosh Ksh1.2 billion.
