United's two-name striker wishlist revealed

One of them wouldn't require any adaptation to the league, but the other is arguably a higher-quality player

The clock is ticking, and Man United have yet to bring in a genuine striker. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo will be fantastic assets for Ruben Amorim's squad, and their arrivals are the club's excellent job, but the crucial position in the offence remains empty.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are still there, but a club that aims as high as the Red Devils cannot rely on the Dane and Dutchman. The previous season clearly showed it.

Given that Newcastle's Alexander Isak is out of reach, United's striker wishlist contains only two names - Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins.

On the one hand, the Slovenian would be eligible for around €80 million, though the Red Devils hope RB Leipzig would agree to reduce the price. The 22-year-old has proved his quality both in the Bundesliga and Champions League, scoring 39 goals in 87 matches for Leipzig, but he'd undoubtedly require adaptation to the Premier League style of football.

On the other hand, Watkins is already used to the toughness of EPL defenders, but the amount Aston Villa demand (around €70 million) is considered a bit unrealistic at Old Trafford.

In the end, the consensus at the Theatre of Dreams is that the club first has to get rid of unwanted players and then bring in the new ones. Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona, but names like Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho are still there.

Hence, it seems that United will have to hold off on their shopping spree, at least for some time, and enter the new season with the Hojlund-Zirkzee duo in the attack. In that case, they'll need luck, that's for sure.
