The Kenya international has established himself as one of the key players for the military outfit since his transfer from FKF Premier League giants Tusker FC back in December 2021.

The former Nzoia Sugar FC man has undoubtedly been the biggest attacking threat on Nyaudo’s side, and his form, particularly last season, helped the club successfully disentangle from the relegation quagmire and earn him a place in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) squad.

The 29-year-old also impressed for Harambee Stars in the continental tourney, a performance that convinced his club coach to consider switching his role in the team.

“I have been playing him behind the striker because his main positive in the national team was his passes. When he is closer to the striker, he can give more of those passes than when he is playing wide,” said Nyaudo.

Muchiri largely played from the wings in Ulinzi's season opener against Murang'a Seal before being deployed in the number 10 role against Kariobangi Sharks and alternating between the two roles against Kenya Police FC and Mara Sugar.

Despite Muchiri's redepolyment on the pitch, Nyaudo still recognises that the former Sony Sugar FC man remains one of the country's best wingers.

“Because he is technically gifted, he has the ability to take on opponents when he plays from the wide areas and be dangerous,” he added.

For his CHAN exploits, Muchiri earned a military promotion to the rank of Corporal from a Senior Private. This is in addition to the over Ksh6 million that he made from bonuses in the biennial tournament.

For Ulinzi, the team will be keen to get back to winning ways after a three-match winless streak that sees them sit ninth on the league log.

Nevertheless, they will be encouraged by the fact that they have kept three clean sheets in four matches and conceded only two goals since the season began.

Up next for the 2010 league champions is a league match against Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday, 25 October at the Bukhungu Stadium.
