The Belgian is best remembered for leading Kenya to the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, the last-ever trophy won by Harambee Stars

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Thursday morning unveiled former Harambee Stars head coach Paul Put as the new head coach of the Uganda Cranes.

Put, 67, who has a vast knowledge of African Football having worked in the same capacity at The Gambia, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Guinea, and Congo, was unveiled on a two-year deal in a press briefing held at the FUFA headquarters in Uganda.

The Belgian replaces Serbian Milutin Sredojevic fondly known as Micho who parted ways with FUFA in September after failing to lead the Cranes to AFCON 2023.

Morley Beyekwaso had been taking charge of the side in an interim capacity following the departure of Sredojević

The former CECAFA senior challenge cup winner with the Harambee Stars has also been handed a free role in the selection of his backroom staff and I thought to have identified five personnel that will be joining his bench.

"This time, we have allowed the coach to appoint his own backroom staff and he is already coming with five other people from Belgium. However, there will be Ugandans who will work as part of the backroom staff,” said FUFA President Magogo Moses Hassim.

The first task for the well-traveled coach will be the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Guinea and Somalia with the Cranes set to play all matches in Morocco.
