Otieno excited at maiden start of the season eyes more minutes

Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 02.11.23. | 12:01

He will be keen to collect more minutes as Homeboyz host Posta Rangers on Thursday afternoon

Kakamega Homeboyz midfielder Gospel Otieno is over the moon after making his first appearance of the season in Homeboyz's 1-0 loss to Kariobangi Sharks last weekend.

The youthful midfielder clocked full minutes for the first time in the 2023-2024 FKF Premier League, filling the void left by Hillary Otieno, who missed Sunday's duel due to a knee injury.

Otieno joined Homeboyz last season from Sharks but struggled for minutes managing a single start against Mathare United and selected second-half appearances to his name.

Despite having two second-half cameos against Nzoia Sugar and Tusker FC, the fast-rising midfielder is hoping to keep his place in the squad and record more first-team football.

"I am happy I had my first start of the season, more so against my former team. Though we lost, I picked up a lot of positivity, and I feel so motivated going into upcoming matches when my services are called upon," he offered.

Homeboyz have not had one of the best starts to the campaign, but the towering midfielder believes Abana Beingo will soon bounce to winning ways.

"We are currently having a rough patch, but I am confident we are going to turn around the poor start," he added.

The 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup winner's home record has been wanting, with the club picking three points from a possible twelve at their own backyard.

The Patrick Odhiambo-coached side entertain table-topping Posta Rangers in a mid-week encounter, and Otieno believes they have what it takes to bag maximum points.

"Rangers are currently doing well and definitely will face tough opposition tomorrow. We are coming from a loss, and we need to have a positive response. Our home record has been wanting, but I am optimistic Thursday will mark the beginning of posting positive results at home,” he concluded.
