Tusker FC striker Eric Kapaito says Sunday’s Mozzart Bet Cup final against Kenya Police will provide his team with an opportunity to make amends on what has been a rather disappointing season for the club.

Kapaito, speaking on Wednesday,10 June, believes that winning the domestic cup final set for Kwale Stadium from 1530 hrs (EAT), will be the proper way for the team to bow out, and with it, reinforce the Brewers’ winning culture that has been forged over the years.

“This season has been very difficult for us because, as players, we have not performed to our standards,” Kapaito, speaking to the club media, said. “We struggled to get things going and finished in a position that is far below what Tusker FC expects.”
In the just-concluded league campaign, Tusker could only muster a ninth-place finish, making it the second-straight season the Brewers had ended up in a similar position.
Having started out the season with Charles Okere, Tusker were forced to pivot mid-way, signing French manager Julien Mette, to help salvage a campaign that seemed headed one way: trophyless.
Upon his arrival, Mette, perhaps with the admission that the chase for the league title was unachievable, shifted the team’s focus to the Mozzart Bet Cup, where they dug in past three top-flight opposition, to fancy a chance at winning some silverware afterall.
On the team’s journey in the competition, Kapaito said: “We have performed well in the Cup and fought our way to the final. It has not been an easy journey, but we have shown what we can do as a team. This is an opportunity for us to make amends and win something. Tusker FC is a club known for winning trophies, and it is important that we continue that tradition.”
Individually, Kapaito’s return to Tusker has admittedly failed to meet his expectations, despite racking in seven goals and an assist all season.
“Honestly, it has not been the season I wanted because I am used to reaching double figures in goals,” the former FKF Premier League 'Golden Boot' winner said. “But every player goes through difficult phases. At the same time, I choose to look at the positives. Last season in Tanzania I did not score, and this season I managed seven goals. I believe next season will be much better.”
As for now, only one task remains.
“We want to finish the season with a trophy, and we know our fans have always stood by us,” Kapaito said. “We urge them to come out in large numbers on Sunday, and support us as we fight for this title.”
