The Brewers have now gone five years without lifting any domestic silverware, with their last triumph dating back to the 2020-2021 season.
The announcement comes shortly after the draw for the 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup round of 64, conducted on Thursday, 29 January, signaling Tusker’s determination to break the long-standing jinx.
The Ruaraka-based outfit is one of the dominant forces in the 70-year-old competition, having clinched four Mozzart Bet Cup titles.
However, the club has endured a decade-long drought in the tournament, with their last cup triumph coming in 2016.
With league momentum tightening week by week, the former Tusker youth coach is viewing the domestic cup as the most viable pathway back to continental football, a stage the club has been absent from in recent years.
Tusker will commence their campaign for a fifth Mozzart Bet Cup title with an away clash against Mwea United FC, seeking to carve their way back to silverware.
Their last near miss in the competition came in 2023, when they fell to eventual champions Kakamega Homeboyz in the 1 June final at Kasarani Stadium.
The past two cup campaigns have been challenging.
In 2024, Tusker exited in the round of 16 following a 1-0 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz courtesy of Oliver Majaka’s decisive strike.
Last year, they bowed out in the round of 32 after a 5-4 penalty shootout loss to Nairobi United, the eventual champions.
“The cup is a very important trophy for us, and it is one we are determined to win this season. The last two campaigns did not meet our expectations, and it’s time for us to show improvement,” said the former Harambee Starlets coach.
“From here on, every match is a final. We have six games ahead, and each one demands our very best. In cup football, there are no big or small teams; every game is decisive. There are no underdogs,”he added.
