Singida were keen on signing Onyango in January but the transfer did not materialize despite paying 5 million to Gor Mahia

Kenyan champions Gor Mahia could find themselves in FIFA’s bad books again after reportedly failing to refund Singida Black Stars USD 40,000 (approximately Kshs. 5,170,000 at current rates) for the botched transfer of Rooney Onyango.

The two clubs had agreed on the sale of the versatile defender, in November last year, with Singida advancing Gor the amount after reaching an agreement.

Things went south after the Kenyan international reportedly refused to cross the border, with sources close to him indicating that he was eyeing deals in Europe and Asia.

The botched transfer left Singida with no option but to demand a refund of the transfer fee after the Tanzanian mid-season window closed.

The club first wrote Gor on 3 January, but the record Kenyan champions failed to wire the funds back.

In a letter making rounds on social media, Singida have threatened to report K’Ogalo to FIFA if the money is not refunded in two weeks' time.

"Our Club wrote to your Club on 3.1.2025 requesting your club to kindly refund the said amount of USD 40,000 since the transfer did not materialize due to your fault.

It is unfortunate that to date we have not received any response to our letter nor have we received the refund.

In the same context, your club is given 14 days within which to pay the outstanding balance of 40,000 USD.

Failure to do so our club will refer the matter to FIFA for breach of our agreement,” read the statement from Singida

Efforts to get a comment from both clubs were futile as calls went unanswered.

Gor have in the past been embroiled in lengthy battles at the FIFA Disputes Resolution Chamber for wrongful dismissal of their former foreign players.

The club has in the recent past served transfer bans for failing to honor the end of the bargain with former employers.

It remains to be seen whether Singida will make good on their threat.
