Vyner, primarily a central defender, was deployed in a defensive midfield role and did not disappoint. He was eventually voted Man-of-the-Match in a club poll conducted among fans.

Robert Atkinson put Bristol ahead in the 18th minute with a brilliant header from Anis Mehmeti’s corner. Jack Clarke then levelled matters in the 52nd minute from the penalty spot.

Despite both sides creating chances, neither could find a winner, and the points had to be shared.

The draw took Bristol City’s tally for the season to 13 points after eight rounds of league matches, placing them fourth in the Championship table and in the Promotion Playoffs bracket.

Next up for them is a home tie against QPR on Saturday.

Bristol coach Gerhard Struber was elated with his team’s display, praising their discipline and teamwork.

"It was a really good performance from the boys. How we executed the match plan was super disciplined. All the boys worked together, so close," Struber told BBC.

He further lauded his players for standing up to a strong Ipswich side.

"I cannot remember them having a clear chance against us. We must remember this is a team with a £200 million transfer value. You could see their quality, and how our boys dealt with it was really impressive."

Sammy Henia-Kamau

Elsewhere, another Harambee Stars prospect, Sammy Henia-Kamau, started for Hull City U21 as they thrashed Peterborough United 4-1 in a Professional U23 Development League match played on Tuesday evening.

The goals came via a brace from Pharrell Brown and strikes from Josh Ocaya and Aidon Shehu.
