"I wish Xabi all the best, but his future is an answer I don't know. If you don't win big games, things get difficult."

Pep Guardiola has weighed in on the mounting pressure surrounding Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso ahead of Wednesday's Champions League showdown at the Santiago Bernabeu, offering some unusual advice in the process.

Alonso comes into the match under fire after Real Madrid's damaging La Liga defeat to Celta Vigo, which saw Los Blancos slip four points behind Barcelona. Questions over his future have intensified, fueled by speculation that stars like Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham are unsettled, and rumors linking former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, among the others, as a potential replacement.

When asked for a message of support for Alonso, Guardiola delivered a tongue-in-cheek response:

"He should pee on his own. I won't pee for him. You like that headline, right?"

Still, the Spaniard quickly added a more serious note on Alonso's situation:

"I wish Xabi all the best, but his future is an answer I don't know. If you don't win big games, things get difficult. But Xabi is in control and knows what this whole thing is about."

Guardiola also expressed empathy, recalling the pressures of managing one of football's biggest clubs:

"I empathise with him because we worked together and it was an incredible experience. Barca and Madrid are difficult to manage because of the pressure and the environment. He knows the reality, and everything revolves around winning matches. He’s capable of turning things around."

Alonso, meanwhile, has remained calm, focusing solely on preparing his team for City.

"This is a team, and we're all in this together," he said. "When you are Real Madrid coach, you have to be prepared to face difficult spells with calm, unity, and composure. That's what I'm focused on - the team, the pitch, and the next match."

Wednesday’s clash marks the fifth consecutive season City and Madrid meet in the Champions League. Los Blancos hold a slight edge in the head-to-head record, with five wins to City’s four, alongside five draws. For Alonso, the stakes are high: a defeat could intensify speculation over his future, making this potentially a decisive night at the Bernabeu.
