Mauricio Pochettino's side wins the sixth out of the last seven domestic cups thanks to a horrible mistake made by Monaco's centre-back Axel Disasi
What makes the difference between good sides and great ones? The latter permits fewer mistakes and take all their chances.
That's the exact story of tonight's French Cup final, which deservedly finished in Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 victory against AS Monaco. The Paris favourites have won their sixth cup trophy in the last seven seasons. The credit for this one mostly goes to unplayable Kylian Mbappe, but also a fair share of importance goes to Monaco's inexperienced defence.
In a pretty boring encounter, especially in the first half, the Paris side took the lead thanks to a terrible red and whites sweeper Axel Disasi. His keeper gave him a ball, but Disasi lost it somehow once Mbappe pressured him on the edge of the box. For a striker of his ilk, it was an easy job for Mbappe to deliver a ball to unmarked Mauro Icardi in the heart of the area. It was 1-0 literally out of nothing.
Mauricio Pochettino was eager to win this one and get a hold on a crown of solace after his side was eliminated from the Champions League and is close to losing the French league title. It was the reason the Argentine tactician ordered an even-tempered strategy, waiting for another opponents mistake.
It paid off near the end of the game when the underdogs from Monte Carlo lost the ball in the middle of the pitch. Di Maria was calm and confident, expecting Mbappe to hide behind the centre-backs, which he did in a few moments. The prodigious striker went for a marvellous chip to show who's the boss in Paris and France, 2-0.
