Last season, he finished as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals, a run that earned him a place in the CHAN squad.
Shabana FC fans will be holding their breath, hoping to have star man Brian Michira ready for Sunday’s league match against Tusker FC at the Moi Kasarani Stadium after he limped off in the game against Bandari last weekend.
Michira, the current league top scorer with three goals, has found the net in each of Shabana’s opening league games this season. On Sunday in Mombasa, he scored the decisive goal as the Glamour Boys beat Bandari 1-0 at the Mbaraki Sports Club to take charge of the league standings.
Their celebrations were, however, dampened after Michira limped off moments after scoring, and his availability for the Tusker clash remains uncertain.
“It is a groin issue. I was carrying it even before the game, but I think I overstretched it against Bandari and could not continue,” he told Mozzart Sport. On whether he will be fit to face Tusker, he added: “We shall see. We will monitor it and see how it progresses.”
The coaching staff and fans alike will certainly be hoping that he recovers in time, as the Gusii-based side looks to extend their bright start to the new season when they face a struggling Tusker FC.
While Shabana boast maximum points from their opening two games, their weekend opponents are firmly in the relegation zone with just one point from three matches. Tusker lost to KCB FC and Posta Rangers before managing a goalless draw against Mathare United at the Dandora Stadium on Sunday.
Michira has been vital for the Glamour Boys since their promotion to the top tier. Last season, he finished as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals, a run that earned him a place in the CHAN squad. He has started the current campaign just as strongly, and should he miss out against Tusker, it would be a massive blow for the team.
Coach Peter Okidi remains confident, reiterating that the club’s main target this season is nothing short of winning the title.
“Our target is clear—we must win the Premier League title. That is our focus, and we are not going to track back. We will keep pushing forward,” Okidi affirmed.
