The Senegal national team showcased the trophy they had won — and later had taken away — before the match, and then went on to defeat Peru 2–0
Senegal, the national team that first won the AFCON title but recently had it taken away, displayed good form against Peru and secured a 2–0 victory with goals from Jackson and Sarr. Interestingly, before the match, the Senegalese players made clear allusions to the stripped title, coming out with the trophy to show who the true champions of Africa really are.
Just seven minutes in, Nicolas Jackson had a right-footed shot from the left side of the box after an Ismaila Sarr pass, but it was comfortably saved by Pedro Gallese. Minutes later, Pape Gueye headed a corner from Lamine Camara over the goal, keeping the score level. Jackson was again denied on 18 minutes with a header from the center of the box.

Peru responded around the 26th minute, with Erick Noriega hitting the crossbar after a solo run and mid-range right-footed shot. Shortly after, Jairo Velez tested Senegal’s goalkeeper following a pass from Yoshimar Yotun, but his effort was saved.
Senegal continued to threaten on the counter, with Camara firing over the bar after a pass from Idrissa Gueye on the 30th minute. Their persistence paid off right before halftime, as Jackson finally broke the deadlock with a close-range right-footed strike, leaving Gallese with no chance and giving Senegal a 1–0 lead going into the break.

The home side kept pressing for a third goal. Nicolas Jackson came close in the 59th minute with a header from a Diatta pass, but his effort went wide. A few minutes later, in the 64th minute, Mbaye tried his luck from the right side of the box following a Sarr assist, but Gallese was equal to the task and made the save.
Senegal’s attacks continued, and in the 75th minute, Assane Diao fired a left-footed shot from the center of the box after a cross from Jakobs, only to see Gallese make another crucial save in the bottom left corner. Despite their dominance, the score remained 2–0, sealing a confident victory for Senegal.
