Kenyan defender Clyde Senaji clocked full time in Nyasa Big Bullets' 3-2 win over Moyale Barracks in a Malawian top-flight game played at the Rumphi Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The win saw Nyasa scale to the top of the long list, relegating the Mighty Wanderers, who are under the tutelage of former Gor Mahia tactician Mark Harrison, to the second slot thanks to their better goal difference as the two teams are tied on points.
The win over Moyale wasn’t an easy one for the Bullets, as they were forced to come from a goal down and had survived a late scare from the host, who tried to salvage a point deep into stoppage time.
Moyale took the lead barely two minutes into the game through Lovemore Jere, but Nyasa replied six minutes later through Ephraim Kondowe who sealed his brace in the 47th minute.
Lanjesi Nkhoma added the third goal for Nyasa in the 74th minute.
Rafael Phiri pulled one back for Moyale in the 84th minute, giving his side hopes of salvaging at least a point in the game.
However, the solid defence mounted by the visitors held on up to Meluce Nyirenda’s final whistle to bag maximum points.
While Senaji lasted on the pitch up to the final whistle, his compatriot Collins Okumu followed proceedings from the substitutes' bench.
Prior to the game, the Bullets had played the Ekwendeni Hammers to a 1-1 draw and were hoping to get back to winning ways.
The Kenyan duo joined Nyasa in March of this year.
Senaji who can also play in midfield, joined the club after running out of contract at Tusker, while Okumu had last played for Bidco United.
Okumu, a former national U20 team defender, had stints with Thika United and Posta Rangers as well.
