School Games: Musingu Boys reign supreme in Kakamega as Green Commandos falter

Musingu Boy's High School are the new Kakamega County Secondary School Soccer Games champions after edging out Shanderema Secondary School by two goals to one in a full packed final at Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday.

Despite being their first time in the finals, Shanderema dominated the match from the start and their efforts were rewarded after 15 minutes when in form Mark Shaban released a powerful shot to open the scoring.

Breden Mwinamo, who in the semis eliminated his former bosses Kakamega High School, was quick to reorganize his charges and soon took control of the game getting a leveller just before the break.

The scorpions (Musingu), who are aiming a return to the national scene, hit a second immediately after restart and held on the lead until the final whistle to win the championship and book a place in regional finals together with Asuba's Shanderema.

Speaking after the final whistle,Musingu coach Breden Mwinamo praised his boys for following instructions despite the pressure from their opponents.

"We are delighted but have already shifted focus to regional games as we aim to take each match at a time. Nationals we are coming," he said.

Kakamega High School had a torrid outing as they also lost the third place play off 0-2 to Lugusi.

In the girls category, Arch Bishop Njenga had to dig deep to beat former National champions Butere Girls 1-0 to win girls title as they both proceeded to Western regional competitions to be held in Kakamega.

Elsewhere,in Vihiga county, Vihiga Boys returned to the regionals scene after long absence edging out Emusire High School from Emuhaya to win the county coveted title whereas Ibubi girls' thrashed neighbours Madira Girls' to clinch the girl's category championship.

The Western Regional Competitions will be held at Kakamega High School as from August 7th to 12th ,2023.
