"But now he is in our team and he will score for us, so that's good," the Frenchman added
Arsenal fans have been ecstatic in the last couple of days, as the North London side finally managed to sign a genuine net-buster who can significantly increase their chances for the Premier League title. After all, the Gunners' management, led by sporting director Andrea Berta, made several good moves during the ongoing transfer window, making it one of the best in the club's recent past.
First and foremost, Arsenal brought in six players. Apart from the Swede striker, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, and Noni Madueke joined Mikel Arteta's crew, while Eberechi Eze could soon become a cherry on top of a fantastic transfer window, according to some sources.
In addition, the club has been working on contract extensions for key players. Gabriel Magalhaes and Myles Lewis-Skelly have already signed new deals, while Ethan Nwaneri, Bukayo Saka, and William Saliba are expected to do so shortly.
Following Arsenal's 3-2 triumph in a pre-season friendly match against Newcastle, the French centre-back confirmed that the negotiations over the extension are in progress.
"Yeah, hopefully. Of course, there is nothing now but there is a good conversation with my agent and the club. Let's see," he said via The Athletic.
William Saliba says he will “hopefully” follow his centre-back partner Gabriel in signing a new long-term contract at Arsenal.

Of course, the inevitable topic for Saliba was Gyokeres and what he can bring to the squad, especially since the two faced each other in the previous edition of the UEFA Champions League when the Gunners played against Sporting.
It's safe to say that the defender felt relieved that he and the striker would be on the same team from now on.
"We know how good he is, how it's scary to play against him. When you face a striker who scores goals, you have to be focused, but now he's in our team and he will score for us, so that's good."
🗣️William Saliba cannot wait to have Viktor Gyokeres at #Arsenal: “We know how good Viktor is, it's scary to play against him. Of course, I'm so happy to have him in my club and I'm sure that he will help us to win games and win trophies.

"Of course, I'm so happy to have him in my club, and I'm sure that he will help us to win games and win trophies," Saliba concluded as per The Athletic.
Before the opening EPL round and the derby against Man United (August 17), Arsenal will play two friendly matches - against Tottenham in Hong Kong (July 31) and Villarreal at their Emirates Stadium (August 6) - as well as the Emirates Cup clash against Athletic Bilbao (August 9).
