The Egyptian forward left for AFCON in good spirits and in peace with his colleagues
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has revealed that Mohamed Salah apologized to the team after an interview that sparked reactions at Anfield. After publicly criticizing the club and head coach Arne Slot—saying, among other things, that he does not feel sufficiently respected by them—Salah was temporarily left out of the first team and missed the Champions League clash against Inter.
While Slot did not fully answer whether he personally received an apology from the forward, Jones said that the Egyptian took responsibility for his words in front of the entire dressing room.
“Mo spoke to us and said he was sorry if his media appearance had negatively affected the atmosphere or any of us. That says enough about him and the kind of person he is” Jones told Sky Sports, adding that despite everything, Salah has remained the same leader who always wants his team to win.
Jones defended his teammate, emphasizing that Salah’s frustration stemmed from a winning mentality rather than a desire to destabilize the team. Despite the turbulence, Liverpool have produced good results and are unbeaten in their last five matches. Salah returned to the team after talks with Slot and made an impact in the win over Brighton, coming off the bench to set up Hugo Ekitike’s goal. After the match, the Reds’ manager said there was no issue that needed resolving.
“Whenever there has been any anger on our side, including from me, it has always come from good intentions. At the time it might not have sounded or looked right, but it was never aimed at harming the team, the coaching staff, the manager, or anyone else. That is behind us now—we are fitting together well as a team, playing good football, and starting to win” Jones said. Salah will lead the Egyptian national team over the next month at the Africa Cup of Nations.
