Ogam is one of the Kenyan stars from the recently concluded 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), now reaping the benefits of a historic performance at the continental tourney.

The 20-year-old secured a big-money move to Austria's top-tier side Wolfsberger AC, immediately after CHAN and is yet to link up with his new club as he was still engaged with the national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Seychelles.

Before his departure to Austria, Ogam, accompanied by his parents, made a visit to Raila’s Capitol Hill Office on Friday, 12 September, as revealed through the former Prime Minister’s social media accounts.

“Today, I've had the pleasure of bidding farewell to Ryan Ogam as he departs for Austria. He was accompanied by his proud parents, Mr. Daudi Rabok Obonyo and Mrs. Edith Atieno Oderah.

Mr. Obonyo also serves as the Chairman of the Starehe ODM Party branch,” reads part of Odinga's post.

Raila, who is a football enthusiast and a former Bunge FC player, went ahead to appreciate the contributions of the former Tusker FC forward to the national team in recent times.

“I took the opportunity to congratulate Ryan for his outstanding scoring skills during the recent CHAN tournament and World Cup qualifiers. His performance has been nothing short of exemplary,” he added.

Ogam was Kenya's joint-top scorer at CHAN with two match-winning goals, against Morocco and against Zambia. The former Rainbow FC star also scored Kenya's consolation goal in the 3-1 loss to The Gambia and a brace in the 5-0 annihilation of Seychelles.

Before securing the Austrian move, Ogam was a Gor Mahia target and was close to joining the club after a meeting between his parents and Gor Mahia deputy patron Eliud Owalo.

On his part, the former Prime Minister re-emphasised the importance of the sporting industry to Kenya.

“As he (Ogam) embarks on this exciting new chapter, we wish him the very best. Go make Kenya proud!

Sports is a powerful economic industry with immense potential in our country—one we must support and explore to its fullest,” he stated.
