According to reports, the Liverpool full-back is in advanced talks with Spurs, but for the deal to be sealed, they ought to stay in the elite

A decade at Anfield is coming to an end.

And the next chapter for Andy Robertson could take a surprising turn - straight to North London.

As per reports, Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks to sign the Scotland captain on a free transfer at the end of the season, with discussions progressing steadily behind the scenes. Nothing is signed yet, but the direction is clear.

Spurs have been tracking Robertson for some time. They even attempted to bring him in during the January window, only for Liverpool to shut the door. Now, with his contract winding down and his Anfield farewell already confirmed, that door has swung wide open.

But there's a catch. A big one - Tottenham's Premier League status.

Currently sitting 18th and deep in the relegation zone, two points behind West Ham United, Spurs' hopes of landing Robertson hinge on survival. No top flight, no deal.

For incoming boss Roberto De Zerbi, the plan is clear - inject experience, leadership, and winning mentality into a squad in need of direction. Robertson fits that profile perfectly.

The player himself, meanwhile, wants clarity - and quickly.

With FIFA World Cup on the horizon and Scotland returning to the global stage for the first time since 1998, Robertson is keen to settle his future before the tournament begins.

"I don't want to go into the World Cup with anything hanging over me," he admitted. "I'll try to sort it as soon as possible."

Elsewhere, the news is far less encouraging for Spurs. Club captain Cristian Romero is expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury in the defeat to Sunderland. The defender limped off following a collision with goalkeeper Antonín Kinsky, and the prognosis is grim.

For Tottenham, everything is now riding on survival - and time is running out.
