The fixture opens week two action, which will run until Sunday, before the league takes a break for the international window. The game was brought forward as the Ulinzi Sports Complex will be hosting a Kenya U20 match on Sunday and will therefore be unavailable both on Saturday and Sunday.

Both teams were in action over the weekend. Ulinzi secured a late 1-0 win over Murang’a Seal at St. Sebastian Park courtesy of new signing Paul Okoth, while Kariobangi Sharks were held to a goalless draw by Bandari FC at the Kasarani Annex.

Last season, Ulinzi Stars won the first leg meeting between the two sides 1-0, while the return leg ended in a barren draw. This points to another closely contested clash, with both teams desperate for maximum points.

Historically, matches between the two sides have been low scoring, with only four of their 18 encounters producing more than three goals. Five of those meetings have ended 1-0, making it the most common scoreline between them.

Ahead of the game, Ulinzi coach Danstun Nyaudo admitted that his side had little recovery time after Sunday’s match but insisted his players are motivated and ready to face the challenge.

“We had no time to rest; we played on Sunday, and now we have a match on Wednesday. But I can say my boys are in high spirits. We are prepared for this second match and will face it with great determination.”

He added that winning their season opener last weekend was crucial in boosting the team’s confidence.

“I can say we are really motivated. For about four years, we had never won our league opener, and now that it has happened this season, it has significantly boosted the boys’ morale.”

The game will also see two former Kariobangi Sharks players, winger Leonlevitt Otieno and forward Paul Okoth, line up against their old club.

The match starts at 4 PM.
