The former Tanzanian champions parted ways with Davids two days ago, with the South African tactician moving on quickly following the deal he landed with Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.
According to regional Pan-Africa Football, McCarthy has been discussed at Msimbazi following his impressive run with the Kenyan national football team.
“The club has further held talks to hire the services of current Kenya national team coach Benni McCarthy, but it is not clear whether he will drop the national team job and take up the now vacant role,” read part of the post.
Despite the interest, it is believed that former Yanga coach Miguel Gamondi is at the forefront to succeed Davids at Simba.
“Simba have already engaged gear to hire the services of Singida Black Stars, Miguel Gamondi, who formerly handled their rivals, Young Africans,” added the publication.
The latest comes on the back of McCarthy's sentiments, which appeared to suggest that he had a strong bias for club football as compared to national teams.
“I am a young coach and still new at this. This is my fourth job as a manager. I want to learn and better myself. My ambition is to one day go back and manage a club. I want to do this every day. I want to be with the players every day. At the international level, you do not get that,” said McCarthy during a Kenya versus Angola pre-match interview on 6 August.
Meanwhile, Simba have appointed Tanzania national team head coach Hemed 'Morocco' Suleiman on an interim basis.
The club turned to Morocco, given that their assistant Selemani Matola is suspended ahead of this weekend's CAF Champions League encounter against Gaborone United
