The Mailmen sit eighth on the log with 21 points as the league takes a two-week break for the festive season.
Posta Rangers head coach Collins ‘Korea’ Omondi has opened up on why his team suffered a heavy loss to Ulinzi Stars.
The two sides clashed in an FKF Premier League match on Monday, 22 December, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, where the military side emerged 3-0 victors courtesy of a hat-trick from the in-form Paul Okoth.
The loss marked Posta’s third match without a win, having previously settled for goalless draws against APS Bomet and Bandari.
Speaking to the press after the match, Omondi reflected on the defeat and explained the reasons behind it.
“It was a bad day for us. Our energy levels were very low, which allowed our opponents to control the game. We were lacking in almost all critical areas,” said Omondi.
The 3-0 defeat equaled Posta’s joint-biggest loss of the season, with a similar result coming at the hands of Gor Mahia on 26 October. Omondi elaborated on his team’s defensive struggles during the match.
“We were also disjointed in defense after losing Bernard Ondiek to injury. Our defensive partnership of Mwema Dinken and Faustine Ojiambo did not click. The second goal, for instance, went right through our defense,” he added.
Ondiek suffered a head injury following an aerial collision. He was attended to on the pitch and later monitored in an ambulance. The former Gor Mahia player was replaced by Leon David, with Mwema shifting from right-back to center-back.
“Going forward, we will have to find another working partnership apart from Bernard and Faustine,” Omondi said.
The final whistle also marked Posta’s third consecutive match without scoring, a statistic that worries the coach.
“Our attack was equally blunt. We thought we had addressed that, but we wasted so many chances once again. That is another area we must improve. We cannot win if we do not score,” he concluded.
