The former Posta Rangers tactician was particularly disappointed by Wilunda’s red card, which he felt nearly cost his side the game

APS Bomet head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo did not hold back in his assessment of his side’s discipline after a dramatic 3-3 draw against Shabana, openly criticising his captain for what he termed an unacceptable lapse in judgment that left his team battling with ten men.

Bomet made a blistering start to the contest, taking the lead inside the opening minute through new signing Philemon Nyakwaka

The forward capitalised on early pressure, his improvised turnaround strike skimming through the hands of Shabana goalkeeper Stephen Ochieng to hand the hosts a dream start.

Shabana, however, responded decisively shortly after the early setback.

Youngster Brian Olega drew the hosts level just before the quarter-hour mark, before completing his brace two minutes into the second half to swing the momentum firmly in Shabana’s favour.

Harambee Stars forward Brian Michira then added a third midway through the second half, seemingly placing the Kisii-based outfit on course for maximum points.

Despite going down to ten men, Bomet showed remarkable resilience.

Substitute Philip Wasai reduced the deficit eleven minutes from time, tapping in from close range to reignite belief.

Lawrence Kibet then completed the comeback in emphatic fashion, firing home a teasing delivery that sailed past Ochieng to secure a dramatic equaliser.

Speaking during his post-match press conference on Azam TV, a visibly agitated Pamzo pointed to costly defensive lapses and a lack of discipline, directing his strongest criticism at captain Chris Wilunda.

“We conceded cheap goals due to mistakes in the defensive line. For the first goal, I always tell them never to allow the ball to drop either behind or in front of them. Even the second goal was something we could have dealt with better, but we gave it away cheaply,” Pamzo explained.

The former Posta Rangers tactician was particularly disappointed by Wilunda’s red card, which he felt nearly cost his side the game.

Wilunda was sent off thirteen minutes from time by centre referee Lucy Juma as Bomet were scrambling to find their footing back in the match.

“When you are a captain and the team is chasing the game, you do not make silly mistakes like bad-mouthing the referee. That indiscipline left us playing with ten men. What Chris did is something we must address because such incidents can easily make you lose matches, and that is something I will not allow in my team,” he stated.

Pamzo, however, was quick to praise the impact of his substitutions, crediting them for salvaging a crucial point.

He singled out Wasai, Kibet, and Dickson Mwangi for their influence after coming off the bench.

Wasai has been sharp in training all week, and his goal ignited the turnaround. With such performances, he is pushing hard for a starting place.

Dickson Mwangi also stabilised the midfield and helped us regain control. Overall, I now have a solid team, just a few corrections in discipline and at the back,” Pamzo noted.

Despite mixed emotions, the one-time FKF-PL title winning coach with Tusker FC in 2011, welcomed the point, hailing his players’ character.

“Coming from 3-1 down to draw against a strong side like Shabana shows the character of my boys. That is something I’m very happy about,” he concluded.

The result lifted the Bomet-based outfit to 15th place on 15 points, overtaking Bidco United, with a game in hand as they continue their steady climb away from the relegation zone.
