Uasin Gishu County's under-19 football team is gearing up for a mouth-watering encounter when they squire out with Homabay in the Talanta Hela Inter-County U-19 final set for Moi Complex Primary School in Nyeri County on Wednesday.
To proceed to the final stage, the Eldoret-based club had seen off Nakuru 3-1 while Homabay's performance was decisive to see them secure a two-goal advantage over Kirinyaga.
David Nganga scored for Uasin Gishu in the 20th minute, the only goal scored in the opening half.
In the final half, Owenfred Njiru scored the second, before Nakuru's Joseph Ndungu responded with what was a consolation. Samson Maina then joined the scores with the final goal.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Uasin Gishu head coach Fredrick Owino was pleased with his charges' dominance in their past matches.
He assured that the boys were prepared for a nail-biting final against the well-prepared Homabay team. They will be out to revenge for their Uasin Gishu sisters who went down 8-0 to Homabay ladies.
"We are going for a win. We know the other side is tougher because they have been training together for a while, but it will not stop us from playing our best game," Owino offered.
The tactician further expressed his conviction that Eldoret was not only a haven for athletic prowess but also a hidden gem for football talents.
He emphasized that the boys were psychologically prepared for the tough encounter.
"We believe that we also have football champions in Eldoret, who will be aiming to shine. We are ready to play and we will take a game at a time," he assured.
Praising the team's discipline and fighting spirit, the gaffer pointed out that players understood their roles and supported each other.
"My players work as a team. They do not do individual work and each player puts in the required shift," he explained.
Owino also gave a sneak peek into the team's spirit ahead of the match, noting that they were 'relaxed.'
"The team is relaxed. We want to go in and play, and enjoy the game," he told Mozzart Sport.
