Olunga dazzles in Harambee Stars players ratings

Harambee Stars could not muster victory again as they registered a 1-1 stalemate against Rwanda but a number of players displayed improved performances from the lackluster performance against Uganda last time out. Here are the player ratings.

Ian Otieno-4 

The Zesco United custodian was not tested much as Rwanda were only restricted to two shots on target the entire game. He should have done better with Abdul Rwatubyaye’s deflected effort that claimed the point for Rwanda.

Daniel Sakari 5

Harouna Niyonzima gave the Kariobangi Sharks defender a nightmare especially in the first half as he looked shaky with Rwanda utilizing the right channel to instigate most of their attacks but did well with the cross in the build up to Olunga’s opener.

Eugene Asike 5

The contender for Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) defender of the year had a decent game but was troubled by a number of aerial balls and picked up a yellow card for his troubles in the first half.

Joseph Okumu 4

The KAA Gent defender conceded a cheap corner that led to the Rwanda goal but carried the ball forward from defense in a number of occasions in the second half.

Eric Ouma 5

The marauding left back was solid defensively as he tracked back on a number of occasions to defend but should have done better with his crosses that either failed to beat the first man or were overcooked.

Richard Odada 6

The Red Star Belgrade midfielder who is on loan to FK Metalac had another solid game at the heart of midfield as he recovered the ball a number of times and was constructive with his play.

Lawrence Juma 4

The midfielder who is coming from his best season in the FKFPL certainly had a better game as he was tasked with keeping Niyonzima quiet but ended up giving away fouls.

Kenneth Muguna 5

Muguna was pushed further forward and given the license to roam in the game and got the job done but was not at his devastating best as he is capable of threading a pass through the eye of the needle.

Eric Johana 4

The Jönköpings Södra IF midfielder was trusted with a start to add some creativity upfront after a drab Uganda clash but did not command the game as well as he showed in the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia at the Kasarani Stadium.

Masud Juma 5

The former Kariobangi Sharks forward had a semi-assist in the game as his shot that was cleared off the line was fired in by Olunga but had a muted performance in the second half.

Michael Olunga 7

The Al Duhail forward who had a game to forget against Uganda returned back to the scoresheet to hand Kenya the lead after just 10 minutes of the game but should have done better after doing all the hard work in the second half taking on Rwanda defenders but blazed his effort over.

Substitutes

Abdalla Hassan 3

Injected some pace after he was brought in for Lawrence Juma in the 50th minute and reacted well after being dropped to the bench. His crosses were much better and should have been turned in by Olunga.

Boniface Muchiri 3

The Tusker FC forward also added the much needed impetus in the game and could have had a chance to score if he was not brought down by Niyonzima when he had a clear sight on goal.

Henry Meja 1

The new AIK forward came on in the 88th minute for Difaâ Hassani d'El Jadida forward Masud Juma and barely had a touch on the ball before the match ended.
