Prisons escaped relegation last season after prevailing in the playoff

Tanzania Prisons head coach Patrick Odhiambo is optimistic of guiding the club to a respectable finish in the forthcoming season after narrowly escaping relegation in the past campaign.

The former Gor Mahia tactician who joined Prisons in January from Biashara United helped the club beat the drop from the playoff where they edged JKT Tanzania 2-1 on aggregate in the playoff.

Odhiambo who has already began his pre-season training ahead of the league kick off set for August 17 feels that the team will perform much better as the players are fully accustomed to his philosophy.

The former Sony Sugar gaffer pegged his believe on the how his charges are responding to the drills and their resolve to have the state-owned club high up there on the log with the country's two top teams.

"We will certainly do well in the new season considering that we have started as a unit. The players understand what is required of them and the need to be contesting for titles rather than fighting relegation," he said.

With the transfer window open, the former Kakamega Homeboyz assistant coach was thought to be eyeing Kenyan players but he says, he has no intentions of shopping for players here.

Odhiambo crossed the border with a handful of Kenyan players when Biashara United won his signature last year, but his hands are tied given the club's policy on transfers.

"I will not be signing Kenyan players this time round. The club is bankrolled by the state and has a player transfer policy that I have to strictly observe. I have already closed my transfer activities after getting the five players I needed to strengthen the team, " he added.
