Bomet were hoping for automatic promotion to the top flight

APS Bomet head coach Charles Odera maintains that the decision to bar the team from plying trade in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League will not injure the morale of his players.

The FKF Executive Committee annulled the past season and as a result, the top two finishers in the Super League will not be promoted to the top tier neither will Mathare United and Vihiga Bullets be demoted.

Bomet who finished top in the second division were hoping that they will be allowed to proceed to the next level but given that the competition was not sanctioned, the club will defer their dream of rubbing shoulders with the big boys.

Odera revealed that he had instructed his players to maintain a sharp focus on grinding out results on the pitch rather than concentrating on the Executive Committee's announcement that was made on Tuesday.

"I know we will do well in the tier we will be featuring in the new season. The decision made by the federation will not affect our plan to garner positive results in the season. I have told my players to concentrate on their role and leave the rest to the management," he said.

Asked on if he feared that returning to the second tier will trigger player exodus, the former Chemelil Sugar gaffer remained confident of retaining his players.

Bomet had acquired a good number of experienced players in the past transfer window in readiness for life in the top flight.

Among the players the club had signed include Evans Maliachi, Steven Wakanya, John Omondi and Faina Jacobs who all played in the top flight in the past term.
