The coastal outfit, seeking a response after last weekend’s setback, delivered a composed and determined performance to reclaim winning momentum.
A first-half penalty expertly converted by Dennis Mabea, followed by a second-half strike from the in-form Nehemiah Onchiri, proved enough to steer Gilbert Selebwa’s charges to a crucial victory.
The result saw Mombasa climb to the joint top of the summit alongside Migori Youth on 19 points, reinforcing their ambitions in the early title race.
For Equity, the defeat brought their impressive four-match unbeaten run under coach John 'Kamara' Mbezwa to a disappointing halt, as they dropped to eighth place with 11 points.
FC Talanta 2-1 Soy United
At the Ruraka Complex, FC Talanta produced yet another statement performance, edging a resilient Soy United 2–1 to register back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
After a cagey first half, Talanta shifted gears immediately after the restart.
Brian Lusamukha broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second half before Alex Kipruto doubled the advantage with a well-struck effort four minutes past the hour mark.
The victory marked Talanta’s fourth win of the campaign and elevated Jackson Gatheru’s side to fifth place on 15 points, just four shy of league leaders Migori Youth and Mombasa United.
For Soy United, the defeat compounded their frustrations on the road.
The Mozzart Bet–backed outfit suffered their second loss in two weeks, having earlier fallen to Naivas FC, and remain winless away from home this season.
Although the loss did not significantly alter their position, Jeffers Odongo’s charges stayed 11th on eight points, squandering a golden chance to climb up the ladder.
Naivas 0-0 MOFA
At the KHIBT Grounds in Ngong, hosts Naivas FC missed an opportunity to shrink the gap on leaders Migori Youth after settling for a barren draw against Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA).
Despite a fiercely contested match, both sides failed to unlock the opposing defence lines and had to settle for a point apiece.
The result pushed Naivas to 16 points, just three behind Migori Youth.
For MOFA, the draw extended their inconsistency. After bouncing back with a 2–1 victory over Fortune Sacco last weekend, the Homa Bay-based side had hoped to build momentum in their quest for promotion. Instead, their rhythm stalled, leaving them seventh on 13 points.
Fortune Sacco 1-0 Kabati Youth
At the Kirinyaga Stadium, hosts Fortune Sacco handed debutants Kabati Youth yet another painful lesson after securing a narrow 1–0 victory.
Collins Maina struck three minutes before the half-hour mark, giving Fortune their third win of the season.
The microfinance-backed side climbed to eighth place on 12 points after adding three from the win.
For Kabati Youth, struggles continued. The newcomers remain anchored at the bottom of the table with four points after suffering their fifth loss of the campaign.
Coach Haji Bilal is still in search of his first win since taking over at the club.
City Stars 2-0 Mwatate United
At the Wundanyi Stadium, Nairobi City Stars finally ended their five-match winless run with a commanding 2–0 victory over hosts Mwatate United.
A brilliant brace from Joshua Amunike powered the Kawangware-based team back to winning ways after a difficult five-week spell.
The much-needed win relieved the pressure on coach Salim Babu, lifting City Stars to ninth place on 10 points.
For Mwatate United, the defeat ended their four-match unbeaten streak and marked their fourth loss of the season, leaving them 17th on 7 points.
