
Highly-rated Kenya U20 forward scoops award in USA

The youngster played in his first season at North Carolina-based Gardner-Webb University
Kenya U20, Rising Stars forward Javan Omondi has had a good start to life in the US, and has already received an award.

The former military side Ulinzi Stars winger secured a move to the US in June after representing Kenya in the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which was the first continental appearance by any Kenyan junior team.
The 19-year-old, who was the first player in the U20 AFCON squad to secure a move abroad, joined North Carolina-based Gardner-Webb University, whose Soccer team he has been turning out for.
Omondi was feted during the Big South Conference End of Year Awards, following the completion of the season which was dominated by High Point University. The school had an impressive season, cruising to an undefeated 7-0 conference record.

Omondi, who was in his debut season, was named among the players in the All-Freshman team, which also included Omondi’s teammate Pius Seesubulime.
Others who made it to the category included: Prosper Adagani, Roman Holt, Desmond Mensah (High Point), Lucca Barros (UNC Asheville), Oscar Kelly (USC Upstate), and Benjamin Ferrero (Longwood).
Apart from Omondi, some of the Kenyan U20 Squad members whose stars have also shown include: Aldrine Kibet, who secured a move to La Liga development side Celta Fortuna.
The team’s Vice Captain Baron Ochieng secured a lucrative move to Egyptian giants Zamalek SC from Sofapaka in September, while forward Lawrence Ouma made the switch from MOFA to Finnish second tier club SJK Seinajoki.
Kariobangi Sharks duo of Humphrey Aroko and Andreas Odhiambo have attended trials in Europe, but have not been lucky enough to seal deals abroad.
Also in the Big South Conference Awards, Omondi’s teammates Samson Kpardeh, Tiago Campos, Breno Correia and Leo Andrade made it to the First-Team All-Conference list, which was dominated by champions High Point University players.
