Migori Youth returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, dispatching Luanda Villa 3-0 in a National Super League (NSL) encounter at Mumboha Grounds on Sunday.

Heading into the clash on the back of a disappointing defeat to Mwatate United, a result that had momentarily dented both their title charge and promotion push, Migori approached the fixture with renewed urgency, knowing that nothing short of victory would steady their course.

For Luanda Villa, perched precariously above the relegation zone, the contest presented a crucial opportunity to strengthen their survival bid.

The match burst into life at a high tempo, with the hosts eager to assert early dominance.

Luanda Villa carved out the first meaningful opportunity through Wycliffe Jaoko, but his effort was expertly cut out by the alert Vincent Wanga.

Migori, however, soon grew into the contest and began dictating proceedings.

Their breakthrough arrived at the quarter-hour mark when Noah Jagango opened the scoring in spectacular fashion.

The former Kisumu All Stars and Mara Sugar forward latched onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Churchill Otieno, surged past his marker, and unleashed a thunderous strike that proved too powerful for the Villa goalkeeper.

Buoyed by the opener, Migori tightened their grip on the match, controlling possession and probing for further openings.

Geoffrey Odira came close moments later, reacting to Yusuf Ochieng’s delivery, but his effort was denied by a resolute Villa defense.

The visitors continued to threaten, with Churchill Otieno nearly doubling the lead in the 21st minute after meeting a floated pass from Samuel Maiko, only to see his volley narrowly miss the target.

Luanda Villa responded with a rare chance of their own, as Barrack Owino connected with a well-worked move orchestrated by Stephen Wamore, but goalkeeper Victor Kamungo produced a superb full-stretch save to keep Migori ahead.

As the half progressed, Migori’s attacking intent remained evident.

Odira squandered a gilt-edged opportunity from close range, while Otieno tested the goalkeeper with a curling free-kick effort from distance.

Their persistence eventually paid off two minutes before the break.

A surging run down the left flank by Otieno dismantled the Villa defense before he delivered a precise cut-back, which Odira calmly slotted home to hand Migori a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Upon resumption, Migori maintained their dominance, intent on putting the contest beyond doubt.

Odira came close to adding a third, while substitute Mike Isabwa injected fresh impetus into the attack, though chances continued to go begging.

Luanda Villa attempted to mount a response, with Elvis Ihumba seeing his effort blocked by John Juma, but clear-cut opportunities remained scarce for the hosts.

Migori eventually sealed the victory with fifteen minutes remaining through a moment of brilliance from Isabwa.

The former Mara Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz attacker struck a stunning long-range effort from 30 yards, his curling shot gliding past the goalkeeper and into the net to cap a comprehensive performance.

Despite late pressure from Luanda Villa, who pushed numbers forward in search of a consolation, Migori stood firm to secure all three points.

The victory marks a timely response for coach Sammy Otulo’s side, lifting them to 55 points and solidifying their hold on second place, just three points behind league leaders Mombasa United.

It was a statement performance that reaffirms their credentials as serious promotion contenders.

For Luanda Villa, the defeat deepens their struggles, leaving them 14th on 24 points, perilously close to the relegation zone and with mounting concerns over their survival.

Elsewhere at Wang'uru Stadium, Fortune Sacco produced a ruthless display to thrash Darajani Gogo 4-0.

In-form Collins Mwangi starred with a brace taking his tally jointly to 17 with Migori's Syphas Otieno, while Victor Matete and Kareno added a goal each to seal an emphatic victory.

The result propels Fortune Sacco to sixth place on 46 points, significantly boosting their promotion hopes.

In contrast, Darajani Gogo’s woes continue to mount, as they remain winless since the turn of the year and rooted in the relegation zone, with their survival prospects growing increasingly uncertain.
