League debutants Nairobi United and Luanda Villa laboured for a barren draw
Mathare United’s impressive start to the season continued on Sunday afternoon after seeing off Kajiado FC 2-1 in round 10 of a National Super League (NSL) fixture played at the Ildamat Stadium.
Coming off a midweek win over Nairobi United, Mathare made a single change to that lineup; bringing on Steve Kimari, who indeed had a big say in the outcome of this fixture when he turned in Mark Khadohi’s ball to open the scoring after 40 minutes.
Kajiado would score later in the second half through Elvis Shamala, setting the scene for Pascal Ogweno to blast home a Tony Odhiambo delivery with just two minutes of regular time remaining.
The win was their sixth in a row and came at the right time to see their lead at the top of the standings go to five points.
Elsewhere at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Philemon Nyakwaka buried a second-half hattrick in the 52nd, 60th, and 78th minutes respectively to see Mara Sugar condemn MCF FC to their second defeat on the spin.
For Mara Sugar, that was their second win on the bounce, seeing them jump up to second on the table with 20 points, five below the aforementioned Mathare United.
Migori Youth on the other hand secured their second win in a row following a 4-2 win over Mombasa Elite at the Mbaraki Sports Club.
Migori’s goals were scored by Elly Owande and Mark Ochieng to take a 2-1 halftime lead before Clinton Onyango and Lucky Musyoka hit the net twice to see them rise to sixth on the log with 15 points.
At the Mumias Sports Complex, Mulembe gave up a 1-0 lead from Kepha Ondati to see the duo of Joel Kihara and Kevin Mwangi score in the 58th and 86th minute, giving Mombasa Stars a vital 2-1 win that ended their four match winless run.
Mulembe slumped to their sixth loss of the season and are 14th with 10 points.
It was a good day for Darajani Gogo and Kibera Black Stars as they emerged victorious 1-0 and 3-1 winners over SS Assad and Vihiga Bullets respectively.
Darajani Gogo got a late winner from Brighton Madawa, with John Njoroge, Javan Mukoya and Kevin Mwangi all on target for Black Stars.
In the day’s early kickoff, Rodgers Oporia’s strike in the first half was canceled out by Brian Bett as two league debutants - Nairobi United and Luanda Villa - settled for a 1-1 draw at Mumboha Grounds.
