Kisumu All Stars dropped crucial points after suffering a 3-1 defeat in the hands of promotion favorites Naivas FC at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday.

Naivas who have six wins against their name so far scaled to the second slot following the triumph over Otenga who were bidding for maximum points so as to draw closer to log leaders Mathare United.

Had Kisumu won, they would have moved to a point within the reach of Mathare who are on top of their game since returning to the second tier.

Stars were coming off a 2-1 comeback win over Dimba Patriots whereas the shoppers had seen off Mombasa Stars 2-0 last weekend.

Derrick Anami had the ball rolling with a bullet header to open the scores for the shoppers from a Charles Omeyo corner delivery barely two minutes into the game.

Naivas lead lasted for only nine minutes as Noah Ngiendo starting in place of the injured Michael Karamor hit a screamer from the edge of the box to level matters.

Francis Nambute struck home from the edge of the box to give Naivas a 2-1 lead heading to the break.

Anami capped what had been a good afternoon for him with the second goal in the final stanza.

Despite late-minute attempts by Kisumu, Naivas held on until the last minute to nick away all the maximum points and move to second on the table two points behind Mathare United who take to the field on Sunday.

At Cardinal Otunga High School Grounds, Gusii FC redeemed themselves after dishing a walkover to Kibera Black Stars last weekend, with a narrow 2-1 win over Silibwet Leons on Saturday afternoon.

Joshua Chabicha and Mathew Tegisi scored a goal each for the Phelix Ogutu instructed side with Dominic Kipkoech getting a consolation for the Leons, who blamed the defeat on poor officiating.

The win lifted Gusii to fourteenth in the standings with nine points after nine rounds while it relegated Silibwet to seventeenth on the log.
