The skipper expressed confidence that the team’s recent displays show they have the quality and determination needed to continue their fairytale run in Kenya’s premier cup competition.
Kuta Collection remain the only non-league outfit left standing in the tournament following their Round of 32 triumph last weekend, where they edged out KSG Ogopa, who compete in the FKF Division Two Eastern Zone.
Before that victory, the Nairobi side had already raised eyebrows in the competition by eliminating Al-Azizia from FKF Division One Zone B during the Round of 64.
Their latest victory came on Sunday, 8 March, when a decisive second-half strike from Somali international Ibrahim Elias Ahmed, popularly known as Mao, sealed a narrow win at Kasarani Annex.
The former Kibra United midfielder capitalised on sustained pressure inside the KSG Ogopa penalty area, sparked by teammates Giovanni Lukhumwa and Erick Otieno, before calmly tapping home from close range past goalkeeper Mark Ali.
Oduor said the result showed the strong chemistry within the squad and the growing confidence among the players.
“The team has built very good chemistry, and we are looking forward to the next match with a lot of confidence,” Oduor said.
“Whoever we face next, we believe we have what it takes to compete and get the result.”
The captain added that strict adherence to the tactical instructions from the technical bench played a key role in navigating what proved to be a difficult encounter.
“It was a good game, and we approached it exactly according to the guidance from the technical bench,” he explained.
“Everyone understood their role, and that helped us control important moments of the match.”
Oduor also noted that the improved playing surface at Kasarani Annex allowed the team to express themselves better compared to their previous match.
Their earlier Round of 64 clash against Al-Azizia had been staged at Kinoru Stadium, where changing weather conditions made the pitch challenging to play on.
“The pitch today was much better and more playable compared to our previous match,” he noted.
Kuta Collection first announced themselves in the competition during the Round of 64, eliminating Al-Azizia after a dramatic 6-5 penalty shootout victory following a 2-2 draw in regulation time in Meru.
Despite their remarkable cup run, the Nairobi-based outfit continues to operate under modest circumstances.
The club has no permanent training ground, relies heavily on friendly matches to stay match-fit, and depends on the goodwill of supporters, including Pura Vida Sports Africa and player-coach Augustine Mtiang’a Kuta.
Kuta, a former top-flight player who previously turned out for Nairobi City Stars and Posta Rangers, recently hung up his boots to focus on running his sports shop, Kuta Collection, which also sponsors the team.
