Nobody shocks Die Mannschaft twice! Germany thrash Slovakia and march towards 18th consecutive World Cup

The Falcons tried to stand in the Germans' way to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and suffered a demolishing 6-0 defeat

Just as in the previous 18 editions, we will be watching Germany at the FIFA World Cup!

Even though we were used to seeing them secure their WC spots much earlier, this time they had to seal the deal in the final round.

Even a draw against Slovakia would have been enough for the top in Group A, but Julian Nagelsmann's men did not have the heart to let down the crowd at a packed Red Bull Arena in Leipzig.

It took Die Mannschaft only 36 minutes to score four goals and crush every visitor's hope, serving them a cold vengeance for a September 2-0 defeat.

In the span of 22 minutes—between the 19th and 41st—Nick Woltemade, Serge Gnabry, and Leroy Sane (a brace) hammered Martin Dubravka's net, hinting at Germany's smashing win.

After the break, Nagelsmann's crew eased off but still scored two more goals, as RB Leipzig men Ridle Baku and Assan Ouedraogo put a cherry on top of Germany's victory, netting in the 67th and 79th minutes to set the final score - 6-0.

Once bitten, twice shy. That must have been the Germans' primary thought ahead of the decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash against Slovakia in Leipzig, and the reason behind it is simple: tonight's rival brushed them aside 2-0 two months ago in Bratislava.

That defeat complicated Die Mannschaft's situation in Group A, as they were tied with the Falcons ahead of the final qualifying round, and the eventual new loss would have sent Julian Nagelsmann and his crew to the playoffs.

Thanks to the more favourable goal difference, Germany would book their World Cup ticket even with a draw, but playing not to lose had never been their style. Hence, the home team went all-out in attack.

The visitors were under immense pressure since the first referee's whistle, and the impression was that it was only a matter of time before Die Mannschaft broke the deadlock.

And the pivotal moment came in the 19th minute thanks to Germany's tried-and-tested formula: Joshua Kimmich's cross and Nick Woltemade's header for the lead!

However, Slovakia started waking up instantly, as they threatened just three minutes later over David Duris, but Oliver Baumann saved his team with a superb stop.

Still, it was only a one-time chance, as Serge Gnabry wasted a colossal opportunity minutes later when Martin Dubravka stopped him one-on-one.

Nevertheless, the Burnley custodian could not do anything to prevent the Bayern Munich forward from scoring in the 28th minute, and doubling Germany's advantage.

Twelve minutes later, it was already 4-0, as Leroy Sane completed a five-minute brace (36th and 41st minutes), continuing Slovakia's destruction, setting the half-time score, and giving the green light for the party in Leipzig to start!

As the good hosts they are, the Germans took their foot off the gas after the break, "allowing the visitors to breathe" and, at least slightly, feel the ball. Still, the Falcons primary goal was not to concede more goals and prevent further embarrassment.

The home team's control, a bunch of substitutions, and simply getting the job done were the second half in a nutshell.

Regardless, Die Mannschaft continued their scoring spree in the 67th minute over Ridle Baku, who netted his second national team goal in his eighth appearance.

Yet, it wasn't the end of Nagelsmann's team's showdown, as RB Leipzig's 19-year-old youngster, Assan Ouedraogo, made it 6-0 in the 79th minute, scoring with his first touch in the national team jersey!

And while the Germans will start preparing for next year and their North American campaign, Slovakia will wait for their D-Day, November 20, when the draw for the European playoffs will be held in Zurich, Switzerland.

Apart from the Falcons, Ukraine, Republic of Ireland, Ukraine, Poland, Italy, Albania, and Czech Republic have qualified for the additional qualifying round, which will include 12 teams in total, of which only four crews will book their places in the plane for the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
