The club is expected to unveil the new players in the course of the week
Nzoia Sugar head coach Godfrey Oduor has asked the new recruits at the club to draw inspiration from the players who engineered the club to a top-four finish in the 2022-2023 season.
The sugarmen overcame financial challenges to finish fourth with 64 points last season, just six off Gor Mahia who won the league by the barest of margins as Tusker finished a point behind them.
Following the impressive performance in the past term, scores of Nzoia players left the club for greener pastures with only eight remaining behind.
Further, the Bungoma based side lost coach Salim Babu who agreed to deputize Francis Baraza at Kenya Police.
Oduor, who was hired to replace Babu had an immediate task of rebuilding the team that has massive gaps after the priced stars left the club.
Having identified a whopping 22 recruits who are expected to put pen to paper on Wednesday, Oduor, is challenging them to pick lessons from what the team achieved last season and at the same time, resist the pressure of replicating what the team achieved.
“The team that played for this great football club had been in existence for more than a season and this explains the good performance. Asking the new boys who majority are new to the league to match or better what was achieved last season is impossible. The best they can do is to draw inspiration and give their best,” said Oduor.
The tactician who will be deputized by Steve Biko returned to the club for a second stint after leaving KCB where he worked as an assistant to Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno.
The former Kibera Black Stars man says he is pumped up ahead of his return to the touchline as a head coach and looking forward to hitting new highs with Nzoia.
Oduor who was named the Harambee Starlets coach in March is a CAF B coaching badge holder.
