The former Kariobangi Sharks midfielder joined Naibois in early February as the club looked to bolster the squad in order to compete better in the FKF Premier League as well as defend the prestigious Mozzart Bet Cup.
Since joining the club, Wangaya has been a key pillar of the team and a core of their attack and scored in his league debut for the club against KCB.
The Rising Stars midfielder was also a star in their match against Bandari before putting in a man-of-the-match performance against KCB on Wednesday, 4 March, much to the delight of his coach.
“He is a very key player for us because at the moment, a lot of our attacks originate from him. He is a player we want to build the team around, and so far, he is not disappointing, and we will just keep encouraging him to keep improving,” said Oduor.
Despite going down to 10 men after goalkeeper Bernard Jairo was red-carded in the 62nd minute, Naibois held firm to grab a draw against KCB, with Oduor revealing his message to his players.
“After the red card, I told them to keep calm, remain compact, and utilize the chance that comes our way. We almost scored a winner with 10 en, but in the end, I am happy with the single point,” he stated.
The former Kibera Black Stars coach went ahead to reveal the tactic that helped his side to stay solid in the second leg.
“We knew KCB would come back in the second half with a lot more long balls, and so to ease the burden on the back three, we decided to switch to a back four to take care of that.”
Next up for Naibois is a round of 32 clash against BMC Allstars as they seek to defend the cup title.
