The Bees take on Kabati Youth at the Thika Sub-county stadium and in the other play-off contest, SHOFCO will take on Spitfire FC.
Kirinyaga Stars FC, champions of the FKF Division Two Eastern zone have sent warning shots to their play-off opponents in the quest for promotion into the Division One; none other than Kabati Youth FC.
Having successfully won their Zone B side of the league after a 6-0 rout of Bomas of Kenya FC, The Bees, as they are fondly known, have all the intentions of going all the way when they clash with Kabati on Saturday 9 September.
Eric Mwangi, club official at Kirinyaga believes they will conquer the playoff just as they have in the league.
“Not to say that we are overconfident but the boys have shown us very good work this season and we are sure they will seat to completion,” he says.
The Bees take on Kabati Youth at the Thika Sub-county stadium and in the other play-off contest, SHOFCO will take on Spitfire FC. The winners of these two matches then face off in the determining contest, a final of sorts for promotion.
Mwangi reveals that they have invested a lot in the team and a victory will be a proper reward for the fans who will travel all the way from Nyeri.
“The entire season we have taken one match at a time with proper investments in the team. We have taken care of players’ welfare hence the positive results exhibited in the league. A victory in the play-off contests will be truly a proper gift for the fans,” he continues.
The team has relied solely on homegrown talents but Mwangi admits that as a team grows, so does the scope of competition and The Bees will accommodate all the changes that might come along the way as they scale up.
Top tier teams have also shown interest in their top performers and they will see to it that they land in the safest of hands.
“For a team to do as well as we did this season, there will be prying eyes and yes, there are some top teams in the country who have shown interest in some of our players. We will do our best to see that they transfer to teams that have a good history in advancing young talents’ careers,” he adds.
Currently staging their home games in Gathuthuini Complex in Kagio, the fast-rising side seems to have laid long term structures for the team and this, Mwangi says has gotten fans interested in the team’s activities.
“The fans have been with us through and through. We figured that if we could find ways of bringing them to our matches then our home games would be tough for the opponents. That’s what we did and it worked,” he concludes.
The Eastern Zone playoffs will be played concurrently and while Kirinyaga Stars will be squaring out with Kabati Youth in Thika, SHOFCO will be at war with Spitfire at the Utalii grounds.
